On the corner of Cress Street and South Coast Highway in Laguna Beach, California, is one of my favorite boutique hotels in La Casa del Camino. Founded in either 1927 (per the entrance in front of the hotel) or 1929, this Spanish-style coastal “resort” features 10 Casa Surf Rooms, in addition to the Rooftop Lounge.
For my most recent stay, I stayed in the “Lost” surf room, which is a Moroccan themed room that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. I do believe that this was my sixth out of ten of the Casa Surf Rooms that I have stayed in to date, so I have a few more stays to go before I’ve accomplished this task.
One of the must-do places to visit in Laguna Beach is The Rooftop Lounge, which is well, on the rooftop of La Casa del Camino. I will purposely stay at this boutique hotel simply for the view of the sunset over Catalina Island. It is simply breathtaking and a great way to send a day. Make sure you try one of their famous muddled mojitos and I really love their Guava BBQ meatballs as an appetizer or whole meal.
I also enjoy the boutique feel of La Casa del Camino, but there are also some great privileges that come with your stay. The $14 resort fee per day gives you beach service, free WiFi and access to The Art of Fitness which is a short three-block saunter. I took advantage of this gym this morning before I headed to the airport. So should you and you’ll feel great too.
I really look forward to coming back to Laguna Beach as every time I am here I find something new, such as Wahoos Fish Tacos or the Orange Inn, which was their famous date shakes. At first I thought a “date” shake was meant to be shared, like on a date. But no, it’s actually the date fruit. Although I’m not a date fan in ice cream, I opted instead for a peanut butter shake, which was great.
In addition to great dining at K’ya Bistro Bar and The Rooftop Lounge, La Casa del Camino would be the perfect place for a destination wedding or a weekend getaway. So the next time, you are traveling to the OC, check out La Casa del Camino, it’ll make you happy.
