With Twitter Engage, You May Be Able to Monetize Twitter Videos
I love reading the blogs of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. You can often find some really great nuggets of information. I recently read the most recent Twitter blog that discussed how influencers, creators and publishers will be able to perhaps monetize videos on Vines, but more importantly I found out perhaps creators may soon be able to monetize Twitter videos.
In addition to finding this little nugget of gold, on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at 13:02 UTC (cheeky for Universal Twitter Time), Twitter via its’ blog announced several “new ways to tap into video on Twitter.”
For example, Twitter announced that we can now tweet longer videos, up to…wait…hold on…you guessed it…140 seconds. Prior to this change, you could only tweet out a 30 second video clip on Twitter. In addition, certain creators on Vine will also be able to Vine longer than 6-second videos.

For me, video certainly drives more engagement and I tend to shoot a fair amount of video on my iPhone and then upload to Twitter. I rarely shoot video within the native Twitter app because I don’t like to hold down the video button. Yes, I know there is a hack for that, but I haven’t done so yet.
Presumably Twitter made this change to combat Instagram’s recent change from to one-minute videos.
In addition to longer videos, Twitter also announced Twitter Engage. Within Twitter Engage, you are in essence getting the web version of Twitter analytics, but in a beautifully displayed UI and UX (geeky way of saying User Interface and User Experience).

Lastly, one of the items I noticed within Twitter Engage is that there appears to be the ability to monetize Twitter videos from within the Twitter Engage app. Right now, it looks like Twitter is testing this out because the button wasn’t clickable.
To Jack Dorsey and Adam Bain, I say kudos. With the ability for content creators like myself to monetize Twitter videos, perhaps we will see less content creators pushing content out to YouTube for monetization. Either way, I’ll be very curious to measure the monetization between Twitter and YouTube should this functionality become reality.
