Recently a brand new, self-pour brewpub in Eagan opened. Located near the intersection of Highways 55 and 149, Union 32 Craft House is featuring, you betcha, 32 Minnesota craft beers.
Started by four awesome Eagan dads, Union 32 Craft House’s name gives a nod to the great state of Minnesota, as it was the 32nd state admitted to the United States.
Union 32 Craft House is a stones throw away from the new Minnesota Vikings practice facility. I call that using your head and picking a great place where you may see some players come next year.
Housed in the former Time Out Sports Bar and BlueStone Steak and Seafood space, the only thing you may recognize about Union 32 Craft House from its earlier tenants is the outdoor patio space.
When you walk in to Union 32 Craft House, you will need to pick up your Union 32 card, unless you are not that interested in drinking Minnesota beer. And if you’re not interested in drinking Minnesota beer, then why the heck are you here?
But don’t worry, if you’re not into awesome Minnesota beers, you can get a limited choice of cocktails, wine and soda, while your friends enjoy some great Minnesota libations.
Once you have your Union 32 card, head on over to the pour station where your “beertender” will help you with any questions you may have about the beers. Simply slide your card on to the card reader and begin pouring your beer.
You will pay by the ounce, so just make sure that you are paying attention as you pour and don’t over pour your glass. The prices range from $0.35 to $0.63 per ounce and my only concern was a couple of my pours were nearly all foam, because others were not. I did find out after the fact though the beertender can comp you a few ounces if this happens.
Personally, I’d recommend getting a flight of four tiny beers so that you can sample a few so that you can find a beer to your liking. And if you don’t like those four beers, head back for another flight.
For my first visit, I sampled two different flights to get a sense for the taste of the Minnesota beers being showcased at Union 32 Craft House. In fact, Union 32 Craft House is also brewing a few beers of their own of which two were on tap.
The beers I sampled were the Gull Dam Raspberry Wheat, Fulton 72 Stretch, Tin Whiskers Lumen Lager, Castle Danger Cream Ale, 612 Hidden Beach IPA, Lakes & Legends Marigold Belgian, Boom Island Hoodoo Dubbel and the Bank Brewing Lilikoi Sour Bomb.
Although I love hoppy bears, in fact the hoppier the better, my favorite beer that I sampled was the Bank Brewing Lilikoi Sour Bomb. But a warning, if you have never had a sour beer before, be ready to pucker up. Then again, by being able to sample a flight at Union 32 Craft House, you will know which beers you like from your flight. That way you will not be disappointed when you pour yourself a pint.
And if you get hungry, don’t be tempted to walk outside and get a sandwich from a sandwich shop, simply mosey on up to the “Food Truck” where you can get some tasty treats. I think that is pretty neat.
I can’t wait for the next time that I come over to Union 32 Craft House in Eagan. I will order some food, sample a few more great Minnesota beers and have another great time. Without a doubt, you should check it out.
